2010 is uh..pretty near to us and it is a sin not to preview what are the animes for the season eh ? So here it is! TBE’s  2010 Winter anime preview  Ｏ(≧∇≦)Ｏ  Also this post also celebrates TBE’s 1000th post milestone !! (adding on our old blog’s post, we have more than 2500++ articles to date ^^). Ookami Kakushi

Summary: Ookami Kakushi is based on a PSP novel game by Ryukishi07, the creator of Umineko and Higurashi series, yes, so if you are thinking that you are gonna suffer from some Umineko withdrawl after the series end, think again. The story follows Hiroshi Kuzumi, a student who settled in a remote village of Jogamachi, where it is separated between the new and old cities by a bridge.  The serenity of the surroundings has its own roots of ancient traditions which Hiroshi will uncover and perhaps, the horror that lies within.

oOgA: I have yet to see an anime trailer on youtube yet but the game trailer does look promising, being a fan of Higuashi and Umineko’s plot, I am sure Ookami Kakushi will be something to look forward to. Perhaps, more guts and blood this time :3 This story might have a “question/answer” arc kind of plot but I might be wrong. ^^

nutcase23: I’m staying neutral. In fact, I’m still severely behind on Umineko so I can’t make any comparisons :3

Sora no Woto

Studio: A-1 Pictures

Release Date: 4th Jan 2010

Summary: Sora no Woto places an emphasis with a slight European kind of setting which takes place n the future where a long war between 2 cities brings a gradual decline of the world. 5 girls guard a fortress and play brass over towns without people or sea without fish

oOgA: Mixed reactions towards the trailer, looks kinda cheesy and a blatantly K-ONised characters. You get the moe looking girls in uniform and hola, you get a story. the seiyuu cast is pretty average norm with a few exceptions  – Endo Aya and Kitamura Eri (tsk..she has a role in Ar Tonelico 3!). I am sure it might be pretty interesting as the episodes progresses. I mean, 5 girls blowing brass, c’mon! I am sure there is more surprises to it.

nutcase23: I would have to agree that the first thing that comes to mind would be K-ON!. But character design aside, I am curious about the story which crosses me as sort of slice-of-life-ish. Will check it out but I’m not expecting much.

Hanamaru Kindergarten

Studio: Gainax

Summary: The story follows Anzu who joins pre-school kindergarten and makes new friends – Hiiragi and Koume. Needless to say, the 3 girls try to get attention from well, the caretaker Tsuchida who is pretty much attracted to the teacher taking care of the neighboring class – Yamamoto sensei.

oOgA: The safer version of Kodomo no Jikan ? but I am surprised that it is coming from Gainax, the one who did Evangelion, Gurren Lagann. Lots of loli in this show, I am sure a certain someone will be pretty excited for this :3 Quite a few strong cast in the lineup – Takagaki Ayahi (Noe in True Tears), Shindou Kei (Kuro in Kodomo no Jikan), Erino Hazuki (Akari in ARIA). Might be good and funny to see lolis running around *cough*

Seikon no Qwaser

Summary: In St. Mikhailov Academy, Oribe Mafuyu meets a silver haired boy – Alexander. He is a Qwaser, a being who can manipulate iron and draws his power from breast milk.

oOgA: Drawing power from breast milk ? kthxbye. Lots of fanservice based on the trailer -_-’ Strong cast though, Hirano Aya, Chihara Minori,  Shimizu Ai and Kawasumi Ayako are a few names to give. Still, the storyline that relates drawing power from breast milk is kinda disturbing.  ^^;; I wouldn’t know about you but this is prolly a no-no to me. might be interesting to take a peek or two though :3

nutcase23: I’ll watch it just because the whole idea of “powered by breastmilk” is so ridiculous XDD. Anyway, I heard the manga is pretty decent despite the aforementioned concept so if the action is decent, I’ll bite. :3

Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆

Studio: Shaft

Summary: Hidamari Sketch X Hoshi Mitsu is the 3rd season of the series that’s based on a 4-koma manga. The story revolves around Yuno and the lives of her friends who stay in the same apartment as her and also her school life where she pursue Arts to realize her dream.

oOgA: Hidamari is WIN. nuff said. This is definitely a must-watch for your daily slice-of-life dose.  As for us, I am pretty sure our resident nutcase23 is have a case of nuts going on in his brain now. ^^

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu

Studio: Silver Link

Release Date: 6th Jan 2010

Summary: Based on a light novel series, Akihisa Yoshii  is the “Baka” of the show who attends an academy that divides students based on their test results. The classes of the A grade students are filled with luxury such as air-con, spacious classroom) which is the complete opposite of the F-grade students. The academy is also a “magical academy” where students are able to summon beasts into battle, of course, the quality of the beasts also reflect based on their grades. This is where the story gets exciting where a very smart girl – Mizuki Himeji who got a F grade as she wasn’t able to attend the test due to fever. Together with Akihisa Yoshii, they pitch a plan on how to conquer the higher grade classes to earn the luxurious items and for Mizuki’s sake

oOgA: This is prolly another “must-watch” series of the season where it brings comedy, chibies and outrageous plotline together. Although the studio is prolly one that I never heard of and even a normal lineup of seiyuu cast (Katou Emiri is in the list though **read: Kagami in Lucky Star**), it is prolly worth to check it out first. Also, they have a official twitter, check it out here !

nutcase23: This actually brings Maburaho to mind on watching the trailer. And Maburaho SUCKED. I get the feeling this ain’t going to be any better but as usual I’ll give it a fair chance.

Chu-Bra

Summary: Nayu is a middle school student who shocks her fellow students by wearing black lace panties to school. She starts a club the “underwear club” to relay the message on how good underwear can bring about its good points.

oOgA: A middle school student, an underwear club, lots of bouncing oppai and shimopan. Lots of fanservice, definitely not a show for me. How about you ? ^^

nutcase23: Looks like a fanservice show for guys disguised as an educational show for girls =P. It actually reminds me of this crazy Hong Kong movie called La Brassiere or 绝世好Bra. I’ll probably look like a damn perv if I watch it so I’ll wait for others to do so before deciding. :3

Dance in the Vampire Bund

Studio: Shaft

Release Date: 7th Jan 2010

Summary: Mina Tepes, is the ruler of the ancient covenant of vampires and using the wealth of her clan, she cleared the debt of Japan and secured a special authority that allows her to create a district off the coast of Japan. I assume you already know what happens next. Indeed, this district is the haven for all vampires. Mina then reveals to the world the existence of vampires and her desire for both races to live together. Naturally, factions on the good and evil side like the fearful humans and extremist vampire factions begin to interfere with Mina’s wish for peace.

oOgA: A DFC vampire that rules and a werewolf that kick-ass, pairing it with bloody scenes. Seems like this series by Shaft is gonna get all bloody here and exciting as well. All I am hoping is a good plotline and not some meaningless killings with lolified undead. Yuuchi Nakamura (Okazaki in CLANNAD, Alto in Macross Frontier) is the seiyuu for the werewolf…. hmmm.

nutcase23: It’s SHAFT!!! So watching this though I hope they don’t pull another Nadeko Snake@Bakemonogatari again. :3

Nodame Cantabile Finale

Summary: The finale season of Nodame Cantabile series where the story continues in Paris as Chiaki pursues his career. How will Nodame and Chiaki end up together .. ?

oOgA: Gyabo! The end of Nodame Cantabile ?! No joke, this is indeed the finale season. If you are planning to check out this series, its’ recommended to follow it from the 1st season! MUST..NOT…MISS..THIS

nutcase23: Oh god that roundhouse kick… I sincerely recommend watching the Live Drama version if you haven’t already. The anime is essentially the same (or maybe both are the same as the manga?) but it would be nice to see how the anime plays out. And of course this is a must watch both for the story and for completion’s sake. :3

Durarara

From then on, the existence of supernatural cases and a gang called the Yellow Turbans will rise to the surface, and Ikebukuro will pushed to the breaking point – ANN

oOgA: A mix of supernatural and action? No clue bout this, trailer tells me there is violence killing, confusing story.

nutcase23: It reminds me of Persona. And I don’t mean that in a good way. Pass until someone gives me a good review of the show.

Ladies vs Butlers

Studio: XEBEC

Release Date: 5th Jan 2010

Summary: A school romantic comedy that focus on Akiharu Hino, an ordinary high school student who looks like a delinquent. He enrolls into an academy that was once a school for upper-class ladies, and he is placed in the school’s newly established servant training department. The students there are raised to be either maids or butlers, Hino gets thrown into bicker between them of course. :3

Impressions: Wow.. a school of meidos and butler, fan service inclusive. I am not even sure if this show is worth a storyline but the seiyuu cast caught me there. Koshimizu Ami, Goto Mai and Kawasumi Ayako is love ! and what’s with girl with croissant hairstyle. Worth a watch? Your call.

nutcase23: I think I lost track of the number of shows which a male protaganist having a face of a gangster. And who designed that character? her hair’s so huge I’m surprised she doesn’t have neck strain. Anyway, It looks like the usual run of harem fanservice.

Katanagatari (OVA)

Studio: White Fox

Release Date: Jan 2010 – Dec 2010 (1 episode per month). First episode – 25th Jan 2010

Summary: Based on a novel, Katanagatari is a OVA series that relates a swordfighting story during the Edo era. Yasuri Shichika is the 7th head of a martial sword arts school, he lives with his sister Nanami. Under the order of a samurai general, Togame, Yasuri sets out for a trip to collect 12 treasured swords

oOgA: I am loving the animation sequence based on the trailer, hoping this will retail here but fat hope I guess. Quality is simply clearcut and sharp, something that I would love to see once in a while.  This series is a 1 hour per episode kind of thing and I am having high hopes that the story on the overall will not breakdown.

nutcase23: Certainly an art style not commonly seen. Well, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot.

Harukanaru Toki ni Naka de 3

Studio: Yumeta Company

Release Date: Jan 2010

Summary: Akane Motomiya, a girl who was pulled into another world was told by its people she is the one who could save the world from demons and she became the priestess. Akane has the powers of the Hachiyou, 8 men with powers of their own who are sworn to protect the priestess.

oOgA: I never followed the story of this so I have pretty much nothing to say. 8 men and 1 heroine, prolly a must-watch for fangirls :3 reverse harem ftw?

nutcase23: Oh god Neo Angelique ~Abyss~ clone x3? It looks like Bishie hell. Pass.

Omamori Himari

Studio: ZEXCS

Release Date: 6th Jan 2010

Summary: Amakawa Yuuto loses his relatives and lives with his childhood friend, Rinko. He has a minor problem though – an allergy to cats. It became a major issue when a girl appears on his 16th birthday. She holds a sword and tells him that he is a descendant of demon slayers. The only thing about this girl though is that she is a cat spirit and she is excited to get close to Yuuto.

oOgA: Rinko is a girl, Himari is a girl and the series have lots of girls. Next, DFCs, Oppai shoujo with cat ears and a guy who was told he could subjugate demons. *facepalm* This 12 episode series is prolly one that you will just watch and forget (hopefully)

nutcase23: I actually followed the manga series for awhile. The story is good and the fanservice decent. Given it has only a run of 12 episodes, I cannot really hope for a decent adaptation though I could be wrong. But fanservice is to be expected. Especially deadpan loli. We all LOVE deadpan lolis :3
