Picture is legal because it was taken AFTER the concert ended ^^;;
It has been a tiring but AWESOME two days of crazy fun in AFA 09.
I thought I’d wrap things up (for myself) before I sink back into depression and restart my studies for my upcoming exams.
Again, pics taken from AFA 09 webby
First up, there’s the Day 2’s I (heart) Anisong concert.
This time, I attended as a member of the general public.
Unfortunately, I have little to say about Fukuyama Yoshiki as I have never heard a single song he sang before.
May’n, on the other hand, I can. I never attended her performance in AFA’08 so I am unable to do a comparison in terms of performance. She was the only singer who employed dancers on stage which I guess allowed her to get some breathers and change clothes in between songs while the dancers occupied the crowd (a reflection of what some mentioned as May’n lesser stamina perhaps?). Her initial songs were those of her singles which didn’t really resound with a good portion of the crowd. However, when she started singing “Kimi Shinitamō Koto Nakare” from Shangri-La and proceeded with “Lion”, “Northern Cross” and “Iteza☆Gogo Kuji Don’t be late”, the crowd really went nuts. She also did “Diamond Crevasse” with Fukuyama Yoshiki playing the guitar before finishing with a duet with Fukuyama Yoshiki of some songs in the Macross series I’m not familar with.
All in all, awesome.
I also had a great time with the “We Love Nendoroids and figmas (and Dollfies!)” gang as we spent both days sitting around fiddling with our figmas, nendos and Dollfies.
Arayden’s dollfies, in particular, garnered alot of attention with the public (and even one of the organisers).
If you were down at AFA and spotted a bunch of (mostly) guys sitting around tinkering with cameras and figurines, that was probably us. =P
Sniped a sniper sniping <– ooOOoo catchy (guy in pic is oOgA)
What about AFA loots?
I didn’t spend much at this convention though I spotted the remainder of a series of Vocaloid badges I had gotten in ACME this year.
Bought them to complete the set.
But that’s not the main thing.
I’m not sure how many were aware, but KKnM organised a Macross Frontier Kuji (or Lucky Draw) on Day 2 where you pay a sum of money (S$16) for a lucky draw ticket with a stated prize written inside. Various prizes were to be had and all tickets guarantee you some prize (no “Too Bad” or that kind of thing). Naturally, there were good prizes and the not so good prizes (you can see the prizes under “Ichiban Kuji: Macross Frontier ENCORE“).
Crazy mad rush for the Kuji. Otaku are nuts.
Macross Frontier goods was never really my thing but I thought “what the heck” and bought a ticket just for the spirit of the AFA event (and by the urging of a certain someone).
And won one of the top prizes.
It’s those kind of moments where you don’t expect anything and they suddenly shout “WE HAVE A WINNER” and you go like “wtf? me?”
Talk about luck.
If only I was this lucky in lottery.
I can only hope my luck holds for the coming exams. =P
The crowd this year was something to be reckoned with (see above pic).
You rarely see this much people except during Singapore’s (in)famous IT Shows.
I’ve been hearing alot about people complaining about this year’s expensive ticket prices so I guess the crowd could be partially contributed by people who came but would rather mill outside than pay for the ticket to go in.
I’m not too sure about that though.
In a few ways, AFA 09 has been an event of firsts for me.
My very first anisong concert. My very first time running around with a Media Pass. =P
In some ways, it was a rather enlightening experience being able to take a small peek at what goes on before everything begins.
Looking back at the almost 2 years of blogging for/with oOgA, it does feel as if we have come some way in establishing a small little place in this vast blogosphere.
In keeping with the fruity tradition, I give you the TBE AFA 09 Blogging Team (from left) inferno0784, oOgA and nutcase23 (me)
And in closing, I would like to thank inferno0748, our part-time cosplay photographer, for helping us in covering the cosplay aspect for this event whilst oOgA and I do, errhmm, “other” things. :3
I guess it was fortunate that my exams this year didn’t fall right on top of AFA (but it still falls CLOSE), allowing me to study earlier and attend the event.
Personally, I find the chosen date of AFA rather unfortunate since it falls right on top of the exam period of most University students here in Singapore.
That’s a good chunk of paying visitors right there you know.
Anyway, here’s to more awesome events (and hoping I can attend it) in the coming AFAs (I think someone mentioned to me about hoping that the K-ON! seiyuus come back to do some singing or something…)
P.S: Yes, no thanks to oOgA, I’ve grown rather fond of the tomato head side of me. >_>”
P.P.S: DOLPHIN!!! LAUNCHERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!! :3
“…fond of the tomato head side of me.”
Then, I guess you can be the tomato man (http://tinyurl.com/ykgfeax). lol.
Ya, agreed that AFA dates should shift to mid Dec but not early Dec as there are still exams. >.<
Awesome event. Hopefully there will be AFA2010 at a better date.
But first, study!!!
Zomg no way, you’re the guy I saw while queuing for the 1st day’s I love anisong, I snapped a shot of you from behind. I can tell from that konata figma and the badges, those were on your bag right?
Besides that, congrats on the prize, the day 2 concert really felt alot livelier and cooler for some reason, I dunno why, I just felt like that. I like how the two songs they sung together at the end were from the two marcross, it felt quite nice. Some of the songs Fukuyama Yoshiki sang were the ED for kamen no maid guy, OP for Busou Renkin and the songs sung by the main male chracter of Macross 7
@Ivanovich: Haha yeah, those badges were on my bag. Now that you reminded me, The Busou Renkin OP was the only song that perked me up for Fukuyama Yoshiki because that was the only song I recognised. And yes, if I were to do a comparison, I would say Day 2’s concert seemed much more lively, especially when May’n started the Macross Frontier songs. Not to say Shoko-tan’s TTGL renditions and Aniki’s performance was any less of course. Although someone did mention that their pairing was kinda poor (fan base-wise).
Possibly cuz the songs from the second day were more well known? I felt disappointed that Miku got so little time though, I wanted to hear more of her as well
